The Beehive House was the main living quarters for Brigham Young, the church's second prophet, and his many wives and children during Brigham's time as President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and as the governor of the Utah Territory. Named such because of the large beehive sculpture that adorns the residence's roof, it is a symbol of the Mormon community, built by Young's brother in 1854. Visitors can join one of the 30-minute tours of the home, which displays period furnishings and gives the history of some of Brigham Young's greatest accomplishments. It is positioned a block east of Temple Square, near Mormon religious sites like the Salt Lake Tabernacle, home to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and the Salt Lake Temple.
